5 WAYS TO KNOW IF YOU’RE READY FOR RV LIFESTYLE

CHECKLIST READY?

Some people decide to do great glorious adventures and then just take off like their is no tomorrow while figuring out problems as they arise. Some stay back in the safe zone when they have dreams dancing in their head until they try and fact check every possible situation that could come up until it drives them bananas! I am here to remind you super indecisive people, about one of my favorite quotes. “If you wait till you have everything figured out then you will NEVER move!” I am not sure who originally said that, however it is one of the best if not greatest truths about facing fears and making moves.

I can remember researching galore, asking a million questions while throwing in tons of worry, some fear and a dash of doubt before leaping to the RV lifestyle. I had just the right amount of ingredients to make up the perfect indecisive human being and believe me, I was stirring in it!

You can only spend so much time digging for info about RV lifestyle and what to expect. You will find many articles written out there but nothing can substitute for real life unexpected things that will come. This article in particular will explain what I believe to be the 5 most important ways to know you are ready to leap into full time RV’ng. Let’s get rolling as I am sure if you are reading this, you are someone interested in taking the journey!

1- After a busy day of working, isn’t it nice to come home and unwind, see the family and spend some cuddly time with your loved ones? Doesn’t it feel good to wrap your arms around your children as they climb all over you and just want to be around you because well, your parents, and that’s what kiddos love to do? Well I hope you enjoy the moments of never not seeing your family in your RV because you basically cannot go anywhere in your small living quarters without an eye on someone. Close proximity is the name and no privacy is the game! Basically you have to be uber chill with someone always being around. Being single I do not have this issue, however one must be prepared to cook, clean, shower, change, sleep, eat etc. whilst someone will always be lurking, more than likely in arms length away.

2 – Throwing and tossing should be deemed the name of a game for downsizing to tiny living. All that stuff you have zero room for in your RV will need to go somewhere and to accept that is the first step. People hold on to their material things as if they are worth millions. I understand that we can get the feels because some material things can hold emotions behind them but you must be ok with letting go of as much as possible. You simply just can not fit everything from your 2,000 sq. ft. house into an RV. As long as you are mentally prepared to detach from the stuff holding you back then you are one step closer to a simpler lifestyle my friend!

3 – Any wine drinkers out there you may want to stock up! I say this because things break in your rigs and things around it need constant maintenance, attention, and care. Now if you invest in a newer and less used RV then you may not run into many problems in the beginning. I took a liking to a fifth wheel that was older, bought it, and ended up with severe water damage because of the lack of care the previous owner took to it. See the video of the unthinkable damage here. The RV roof, windows, slide outs, wheels, doors, floors, pipes, tanks and so on all need to be checked periodically throughout the year. RV’s are not made the same as regular homes so they tend to not be as durable on certain areas. Be aware too, that if you travel you have to deal with hooking up to wherever you park as well as unhooking when you leave. As long as you are ready to take on the challenges of things breaking, busting, or blowing out then I would say you are confident to take the leap to RV living!

4 – If the talk around the water cooler gets quite when you come around, it’s probably because they were just casually questioning your sanity. Moving into an RV full time will NOT be everyone’s cup of tea. Be aware that people will talk. They will question. They will even laugh. (I say laugh back at them because they do not know what they are missing!) Anyone who may come across and belittle you about your decision to go full time in an RV is not worth your energy. DO NOT let the haters get to you. Most of the time it is stemmed from either their insecurities or their jealousy of your new dreams you are about to embark on. On the flip side you will come across people who will think the idea of downsizing into an RV is amazing. They will support you and ask tons of questions and want a tour when you move in! Those are going to be the type of people you want support from if anytime things get tough in your new venture. With knowing that their will always be haters but still continuing to keep your chin up high then you are set and ready to grow on this next life chapter!

5 – Their comes a point in some people’s lives when they start questioning if their is more to life than their house they go to every night. Going through the motions of your nightly routines, that probably consist of television watching, can be so very mundane and leave you to ask questions about more being out there! And this is totally OK! Maybe it is an adventure you are seeking. Maybe you feel you have too much weight in your home, life, or work and feel a desperate need to change somethings. While you are making your plans to go full time RV and thoughts like these arise then I want you to know that is a good thing. It is getting your brain stimulated to seek out more for your life instead of what society tells you to do. Wanting and feeling that desire to break out of the societal norm means you are more than ready to go full time RV living!

With each season passing and the thoughts swirling in your mind about RV life actually becoming a thing, you must be willing to listen to your heart if you want to make a change. If it is saying to give it a go, then follow it! Do not let the fear of not knowing everything hold you back. You will never know every single teeny detail of RV full timing and that is OK! These five ways I have listed for you to know if you are ready, I believe should be known before hand, however please do not stress about your new venture as you will look back one day and might even wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
